Ken Pomeroy Raised in Moore, Oklahoma, Pomeroy is Cherokee. Her mamaw gave her the name ᎤᏍᏗ ᏀᏯ ᏓᎶᏂᎨ ᎤᏍᏗᎦ, which means “Little Wolf with Yellow Hair.” Pomeroy started writing songs at 11 years old. She remembers why––and in signature Pomeroy fashion, it’s somehow disorienting and charming, all at once.
Ken Pomeroy’s latest solo acoustic track, “Stranger,” is a poignant reflection of a challenging period in her personal growth. Drawing from a place of vulnerability, the song marks a moment when Pomeroy chose to face her emotions and inner struggles head-on. It follows the release of her earlier single, “Coyote,” which features a special appearance by one of her musical heroes, John Moreland.
Rooted deeply in her Native Cherokee heritage, Pomeroy’s new album, Cruel Joke, is a strikingly honest body of work. The twelve-song collection—written entirely by Pomeroy—spotlights her raw, introspective songwriting and captivating vocals. Produced alongside her longtime musical collaborator Dakota McDaniel, as well as Gary Paczosa (known for his work with John Prine, Alison Krauss, and Sierra Ferrell) and Colton Jean, the album invites listeners into Pomeroy’s world of personal revelations and thoughtful observations.
To celebrate the release, Pomeroy will hit the road this spring for a limited run of headline shows, including stops at Nashville’s Row One, Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right, and Tulsa’s Mercury Lounge. A full list of tour dates and details is available at kenpomeroymusic.com/tour.
Reflecting on the album’s creation, Pomeroy shares:
“Dakota and I started recording ‘Cicadas’ in February of 2023, and that marked the beginning of what turned into a two-year journey. So much has happened since then. The oldest song on the record was written when I was 13, and the newest one came together just a few months before we wrapped up. We poured nearly every waking moment into making Cruel Joke what it is today.”
